Eat A Lot More Vegetables, Really

salad-791891_1920.jpgGovernment researchers have just announced that Americans are far from consuming adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables which in turn increases their odds of acquiring heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s Disease as well as numerous other serious health conditions. These findings come from a health and eating habits survey conducted in 2005 of more than 300,000 Americans, called the 2005 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. According to the survey, less than one third of adults consumed at least five daily servings of fruits and vegetables – the government’s suggested daily consumption of fruits and vegetables in 2005. New government guidelines have now increased the suggested daily consumption to three to five servings of fruit and four to eight servings of vegetables daily.

Pregnant Women’s Musculoskeletal Pains Left Untreated

pregnant-1245703_1920.jpgIt’s unfortunate that although many musculoskeletal pains arise during pregnancy, most go untreated, especially in underserved communities. According to a recent study from the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, of the 599 predominantly low-socioeconomic pregnant women surveyed, 67 percent reported musculoskeletal pain with 21 percent reporting their pain intensity as severe. Surprisingly, 80 percent of pregnant women experiencing pain slept less than 4 hours per night and 75 percent of these women took pain medications. Most disappointing, 85 percent of the women felt they had not been offered treatment for their musculoskeletal disorders. Chiropractors are highly skilled in providing care for musculoskeletal pains, including those that arise during pregnancy. If you or another is suffering from pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pains or any type of musculoskeletal pain, please consider scheduling an appointment with a musculoskeletal expert today, your local chiropractor.
