A report in Reuters News shows that hand washing with good old soap and water is equally effective as using antibacterial soap or sanitizers. The trick is to wash your hands correctly. The study shows that washing vigorously and thoroughly for fifteen seconds removes ninety percent of bacteria. The problem is that most people don’t wash their hands often enough, thorough enough or completely dry their hands. While fancy (and expensive) hand sanitizer gels are good because a few squirts can cover the entire hand and don’t require water, there is nothing that outdoes good old suds.
